Every month the WINS newsletter features a Board Member Spotlight and President’s message. It was decided that January would be my month since my first name is Jan. So, rather than writing two separate articles, I decided to combine the two.
I have always liked selling! My first experience happened when I was 7. My Mother was an Avon representative and I would go to neighboring homes taking orders for her. From there, I helped promote her Tupperware business. I would go from door to door inviting neighbors to host a party.
Throughout my school years, I studied speech, drama and foreign languages. At the time I thought it would be great to be an interpreter at the United Nations.
The only problem with studying foreign languages is that you have to have someone to communicate with on a regular basis. Before I could pursue that career, I met the love of my life while performing as Nurse Preen in The Man Who Came to Dinner.
We’re approaching our 56th wedding anniversary and I have no regrets.
So, getting back to sales! I’ve sold Avon and Princess House Crystal. I enjoyed some marvelous vacations on the East Coast and earned some beautiful crystal pieces for my home. The experience was a great one. Over the years I worked in the jewelry industry, where once again I was involved in sales. I then pursued a short career as a magazine publisher. Although the magazine was never a financial boon, the friendships I’ve made over the years are worth more than money can buy.
I joined WINS after meeting Leslie Daus. She said if I was going to belong to any group then WINS was the one.
My company is JCD Creations and I am a crafter and enjoy sewing blankets, designer towels, microwave bowl cozies and so much more!
Not only am I President of WINS. But I am also President of the Sylmar Woman’s Club.
It seems all those years of taking speech and drama has paid off!
At our next meeting there will be a signup sheet for you to share your story. I look forward to learning more about each of you!
Warm regards,
Jan
